Body Sculpting During Menopause UK: What Actually Helps with Hormonal Fat

Menopause brings hormonal shifts that alter where and how your body stores fat — often around the abdomen, hips and thighs. Non-surgical body sculpting treatments can support the appearance of a more contoured figure during this transition.

Reviewed by Wumi (Toyin Adewumi) · Updated 2026-06-27

Menopause is one of the most significant hormonal transitions a woman goes through, and for many it brings an unwelcome change in body shape that feels frustratingly resistant to diet and exercise alone. If you have noticed fat accumulating around your abdomen, flanks or thighs despite living much as you always have, you are not imagining it — and you are far from alone.

This guide explains what is happening hormonally, what non-surgical body sculpting can realistically offer, and how to choose the right approach. For a broader overview of non-surgical options available in the UK, see our body sculpting guide.

Why Menopause Changes Where Fat Is Stored

Before menopause, oestrogen encourages fat to settle around the hips and thighs — the classic “pear” shape. As oestrogen declines during perimenopause and menopause, fat distribution shifts towards the abdomen instead. This visceral and subcutaneous abdominal fat is metabolically different from the fat stored lower on the body, and the body becomes less efficient at mobilising it through exercise.

At the same time, falling oestrogen accelerates collagen loss — roughly 30% of skin collagen is lost in the first five years after menopause. This means skin can become looser and less firm around areas where fat has shifted, compounding the visible change in silhouette.

What Non-Surgical Body Sculpting Can and Cannot Do

Non-surgical body sculpting does not remove fat or treat medical conditions. It targets the appearance of localised fatty deposits and can support skin firmness in treated areas. It is not a weight-loss treatment and is not a substitute for diet and exercise.

What it can offer:

  • Improved contour in targeted areas such as the abdomen, flanks, thighs and upper arms
  • Improved skin firmness through treatments that stimulate collagen production
  • Lymphatic support to reduce puffiness and improve circulation in areas prone to sluggishness
  • Gradual, cumulative results that build across a course of treatments

Results vary between individuals, and no responsible practitioner will guarantee specific outcomes.

Treatments That Are Commonly Used in This Context

At Wumi Body & Face Studio, the following treatments are available for clients navigating menopause-related body changes.

Ultrasound cavitation uses low-frequency sound waves to disrupt the membrane of fat cells in targeted areas, making the contents available for the body to process through the lymphatic system. It is commonly used on the abdomen, flanks and thighs — exactly the areas where menopausal fat tends to accumulate. Learn more on our non-surgical fat reduction page.

Radio frequency (RF) heats the deeper layers of skin to stimulate collagen and elastin production. For menopausal clients experiencing skin laxity alongside fat redistribution, RF can help improve the appearance of firmness in treated areas. It is often combined with cavitation in a single session.

Lipo laser uses low-level laser energy to encourage fat cells to release their contents, supporting inch loss in localised areas. Like cavitation, it works best as part of a course.

Lymphatic drainage massage is particularly relevant during menopause, when lymphatic sluggishness can contribute to puffiness and water retention. Gentle, rhythmic manual techniques support the body’s natural drainage pathways. This is a stand-alone treatment as well as a useful complement to cavitation or lipo laser sessions. See our lymphatic drainage massage page for more detail.

Wood therapy (maderotherapy) uses specially shaped wooden tools to apply targeted pressure and manipulation, supporting lymphatic flow and improving the appearance of cellulite and skin texture — areas many menopausal women find become more noticeable. Visit our non-surgical body sculpting page for a full overview of what is available.

Realistic Expectations and How a Course Works

A single treatment will not produce dramatic results. Non-surgical body sculpting is a gradual process. Most clients who commit to a course of six to eight sessions, spaced weekly or fortnightly, report visible changes in contour and skin texture by the halfway point — though this varies.

Staying well hydrated, maintaining light activity (even walking helps lymphatic drainage), and eating a balanced diet all support and extend results. Maintenance sessions every four to six weeks after an initial course help preserve the improvements.

Choosing a Therapist You Can Trust

Menopause is a sensitive time, and you deserve a practitioner who listens carefully, asks the right questions and sets honest expectations from the outset. Our guide to choosing a body sculpting therapist in the UK covers what credentials, insurance and consultation processes to look for.

Toyin (Wumi) Adewumi holds CPD-accredited certification from Curvology Academy, has ten years of experience, and is fully insured through Salon Gold and Hiscox. Every new client has a 30-minute consultation (£20, redeemable against your first treatment) before any session begins. This is where suitability is confirmed, health considerations are discussed and a realistic treatment plan is agreed.

Mobile Treatments Across Kent and London

Many women find that managing energy during menopause makes travelling to appointments harder. Wumi’s mobile home service brings treatments directly to you across Kent, all 33 London boroughs and Essex. Core postcodes (DA, ME, BR, SE, N, E, IG, RM) have no travel surcharge. For other areas, a small additional charge may apply.

The Dartford studio at Copperfields Walk, DA1 2DE is also available for those who prefer a dedicated treatment space.
