What Is Colombian Body Sculpting?
Colombian body sculpting refers to a group of manual and tool-assisted contouring techniques that originated in — and were widely popularised by — Colombia’s aesthetic therapy industry. Colombia has long been at the forefront of non-surgical body work, and the methods refined there have become sought after across Europe and the UK.
Rather than a single device or procedure, Colombian body sculpting is a methodology. It draws on several complementary techniques applied together in a structured treatment sequence: manual lymphatic drainage to reduce puffiness and move waste out of tissues, wood therapy (also called maderotherapy) to break down fatty deposits and smooth the skin’s surface, vacuum therapy to lift, tone and stimulate blood flow, and deep sculpting massage to contour specific areas. You can read more about the full landscape of options in our body sculpting guide for the UK.
The Core Techniques Explained
Wood therapy (maderotherapy) uses a set of smooth wooden tools — rollers, boards and cups — to apply firm, directional pressure to the body. The tools allow a practitioner to work deeply into connective tissue and areas of fat accumulation, improving circulation and the appearance of dimpling. At Wumi Studio, wood therapy is one of our most requested treatments for the abdomen, thighs and flanks.
Vacuum therapy uses suction cups to lift soft tissue, boost local circulation and stimulate the lymphatic system. On the buttocks it is the foundation of the non-surgical BBL; on other areas it helps soften the appearance of cellulite and improve skin texture.
Lymphatic drainage massage is often the opening or closing step in a Colombian sculpting session. It uses light, rhythmic strokes to encourage the lymphatic system to clear metabolic waste from the treated area, which reduces temporary fluid retention and supports the body’s own recovery process. Learn more in our dedicated guide to lymphatic drainage massage UK.
Together, these methods make up what clients and practitioners commonly refer to as Colombian body sculpting. At Wumi Body & Face Studio, Toyin Adewumi (Wumi) — with over ten years’ experience and CPD-accredited certification through Curvology Academy — delivers these techniques as part of our non-surgical body sculpting service.
Which Areas Can Be Treated?
Colombian body sculpting techniques are highly adaptable to different body areas. Common treatment zones include:
- Abdomen and waist — one of the most frequently treated areas; wood therapy and vacuum work help smooth and firm the appearance of the tummy
- Buttocks — vacuum therapy lifts and rounds; wood tools shape the surrounding areas
- Thighs and hips — effective for the appearance of cellulite and overall contouring
- Arms — maderotherapy and drainage can improve the look of soft upper arms
- Back — particularly the upper and lower back where fat can accumulate around the bra line
Our service pages for tummy and waist sculpting, thighs sculpting and buttocks sculpting go into more detail on what each area treatment involves.
What to Expect at a Session
A typical Colombian body sculpting session at Wumi Studio lasts between 60 and 90 minutes. Here is a general outline of what the appointment looks like:
| Stage | What happens |
|---|---|
| Consultation / check-in | Areas of concern discussed; skin checked; pressure preferences noted |
| Lymphatic drainage | Light manual strokes to prepare the lymphatic system |
| Wood therapy | Firm rolling and board work over the target area |
| Vacuum therapy | Suction cup work to lift, tone and stimulate |
| Closing drainage | Final light massage to encourage fluid movement |
You may notice your skin appears slightly flushed and feels warm after the session — this is normal and settles within a few hours.
How Colombian Sculpting Differs from Other Body Treatments
Colombian body sculpting is hands-on and physical. It works by stimulating circulation, lymphatic flow and connective tissue directly — no electrical currents, freezing, or heat devices are involved. This distinguishes it from treatments like ultrasound cavitation, radio frequency or lipo laser, which use energy-based technology to target fat cells.
Many clients at Wumi Studio combine Colombian sculpting sessions with our energy-based treatments for a complementary approach — manual techniques to contour and drain, technology-based treatments to address deeper fat deposits and skin laxity. If you would like to explore a combined programme, a consultation is the best starting point.
