Endermologie UK: What Is LPG Massage and How Does It Work?

Endermologie (also called LPG massage or lipomassage) is a mechanical massage technique used in clinics across the UK to improve the appearance of cellulite and body contours. This guide explains how it works, what to expect, and how it compares to other non-surgical body treatments available in the UK.

What Is Endermologie?

Endermologie is a non-surgical body treatment developed in France by the company LPG Systems in the 1980s. It uses a motorised handpiece fitted with two rollers and a suction chamber to gently lift, roll, and knead the skin and underlying connective tissue. The technique is sometimes called LPG massage or lipomassage — all three names refer to the same system.

The treatment is used in clinics and spas across the UK, typically to address the appearance of cellulite, improve skin texture, and support body contouring goals. It is entirely non-invasive, requires no anaesthetic, and involves no recovery period.

How Does LPG Massage Work?

The handpiece rolls over the skin in slow, deliberate passes while the suction lifts the tissue upward. This mechanical action is designed to stimulate circulation in the skin and subcutaneous layer, encourage lymphatic flow, and mobilise the fibrous bands (septa) that contribute to the dimpled appearance of cellulite.

The device is used over a specialist garment worn by the client, which allows the rollers to glide smoothly and hygienically across the body.

It is important to understand that endermologie works on the appearance of the skin and soft tissue — it does not remove fat cells or permanently restructure the body. Results depend on the individual, the number of sessions completed, and lifestyle factors including nutrition and activity levels.

Who Is Endermologie Suitable For?

Endermologie is generally suitable for adults who want to improve the look and feel of skin affected by cellulite, or who want to support body contouring alongside a healthy lifestyle. It is not a medical treatment and is not a substitute for diet and exercise.

As with any non-surgical treatment, a consultation and suitability check are required before starting a course. Most practitioners in the UK require clients to be at least 18 years old.

People with certain health conditions — including active skin infections, varicose veins in the treatment area, blood clotting disorders, or recent surgery — may not be suitable candidates and should discuss their medical history with a practitioner before booking.

What to Expect During a Session

A typical endermologie session lasts between 35 and 60 minutes. You will be asked to wear the thin nylon garment provided by the clinic. The practitioner moves the handpiece across the target areas using slow, overlapping strokes.

Most clients describe the sensation as a firm but comfortable rolling and suction pressure — similar in feel to a deep-tissue massage. Mild temporary redness is normal and usually fades within a few hours.

An initial course of 6 to 15 sessions is typically recommended, scheduled twice per week. After the initial course, maintenance sessions are advised to help sustain results. Results build gradually over the course of treatment and are not instant.

Endermologie vs Other Non-Surgical Body Treatments in the UK

Endermologie is one of several non-surgical options available in the UK for cellulite and body contouring. Here is a brief comparison of the main approaches:

Each method has its own mechanism and is best suited to different goals. Many clients benefit from combining treatments as part of a personalised programme. You can read more about non-surgical options in our non-surgical body sculpting guide and in our overview of slimming treatments in the UK.

Non-Surgical Alternatives at Wumi Body & Face Studio

Wumi Body & Face Studio does not offer endermologie or LPG massage. However, if you are interested in the goals behind endermologie — improving the appearance of cellulite, supporting lymphatic flow, or refining body contours — there are effective alternatives available at the studio.

Vacuum therapy uses suction-based technology to lift and mobilise tissue, improving circulation and skin texture in a similar way to endermologie. It is also a key part of the studio’s non-surgical BBL treatments.

Wood therapy (maderotherapy) uses specially shaped wooden instruments to perform deep sculpting massage. It targets stubborn areas, supports lymphatic drainage, and can improve the appearance of cellulite over a course of sessions.

Both treatments are non-surgical, require no downtime, and are delivered by Toyin Adewumi (Wumi) — a CPD-accredited practitioner with over ten years’ experience, trained through Curvology Academy and fully insured with Salon Gold / Hiscox.

To explore which treatment is right for your goals, book a consultation or get in touch. The studio is based in Dartford, Kent (DA1 2DE) and also offers a mobile home service across Kent, London, and Essex.

Non-surgical treatments have no downtime, but results build gradually and vary between individuals. Not a weight-loss or medical service. A consultation and suitability check are required; you must be 18 or over.
